Reflection: Art Portfolio 2
This semester was different from previous ones because Art Portfolio 2 focused on working independently. The theme was centered around helping the town of Cromwell in Connecticut, which was devastated by fire. My project involved creating a collection of bags using both recycled and non-recycled materials. As a Crafts designer, I was excited to start my new project. I found the techniques and experimentation were easy and interesting. Learning to use the sewing machine was a key skill I developed, as most of my bags were sewn, and I am pleased with my progress in this area.
My collection involves using a variety of materials and techniques. I experimentation with beads and satin for the first time, which was a valuable learning skills. I drew inspiration from renowned designers like Lulu Guinness and Anya Hindmarch, whose work greatly influenced my ideas. While creating my collection, I also developed a logo and explored new techniques such as 3D cutting using the 'Trotec' computer program. Although I encountered difficulties with torn pieces initially, I hope I will have a chance to explore and develop these techniques.
During the term I tried to develop my logo using different techniques such as 3d cutting on the plastic. Moreover, I visited a jewelry workshop where I learned to work with metal, further broadening my skill set. It was the most interesting skill in this term. I gained valuable skills in plastic 3D cutting and worked with metal .
This module was very important to me for developing my skills and preparing me for university. This new knowledge and the varieties interesting techniques made me more open to new challenhges and boosted my confidence.
