Artist research linocut - Angela Harding

Angela Harding was born in 1960 in Stoke -on-Trent. She studied Fine Art Printmaking and painting at Leicester Polytechnic, she very talented and creative person, who inspire me.

Today, she works from her studio in her garden in the village, looks through the window she inspire the weather and watching like the seasons that continue to change.  Angela's prints beautifully show wildlife and landscapes, using linocut and screen print techniques. Each print tells a story, explore the beauty of the British countryside through her eyes. She works in her studio right through the cold months. “I love looking out on the snowy fields. I always say I have the best office in the world.” (Simkins, 2023)

'Church  Cottage at Morrison' is a linocut print show a picture rural scene with a cozy cottage near a church in Morrison. It is incredible picture, many detail, features vibrant colours. She combine block printing with silk screen printing. This is called relief printing, creating a white line as you work rather than a black line. The blocks, which she cut are usually lino or vinyl. She uses a sharp chisel to cut into the surface of her  block, then applied Ink with a roller to the block’s surface. After carefully carving the picture into the block, it's printed in black. Then, colors are added using stencils made for silkscreen printing. While some use photos, she makes cutting stencils by hand.(Bride, 2023).

Also she uses hatching and cross hatching techniques, very tiny lines to make this picture even more realistic.

'Flights of Memory' was a new collection of paintings and prints inspired by British birds and animals in their natural landscapes. I so inspire this work, bold colour black and red, in my project I using the same colour like she, and also line from very tiny to the wide. The picture seemed like separate the wolf on the top the brunch on the bottom. I would try to do the same in my work with tree and ceramics holder. I think it will be looks incredible like this picture. I will be doing step by step to print each detail separate.

  1. Ok, good research, will this help inform your 2D work? Will you look at creating backgrounds for your 2D prints? Could you try painting a watercolour background before printing on top?
