Materials research

This post will be include recycled materials, which I would be using to create my collection of bags.

Cotton is a popular materials in fashion and textile because is strong, breathable, natural, and renewable. According to (Koh, 2011), the quality of cotton depends on things such us the cotton type, weather, how it's grown, picked, stored, and cleane, and dirt it has. Cotton fibers are mostly made of cellulose, which is a nature material. About 90% of cotton is cellulose and rest is found in the outer layers or inside the fibers, with the inner part being all cellulose (Ravandi, 2011). I am chose this material because it takes colour/ print making it easy to dye according to (UK Fabrics Online, 2023). I plan to use this features in my design tote and make up bag. It is also important to me that coton is easy to wash since these bags will be using every day. Additionaly, I would be create large tote bag and cotton it is perfect materail because it is strength, durable and strong (Jay, 2024). Therefore, this materials in the United States, Texas is the largest cotton producer, and the South Plains region in the northern part of the state is the largest contiguous cotton-growing area in the world According to (MasterClass, 2021).

Next,  I will use Braided Cotton Cord - it is made by weaving multiple fibers into a tube- like braid (Molini, 2022). For example, braided cotton corn combines 8-10 fiber, making it strong, this material is perfect for my handbag and purse because it holds its shape well. I chose this material because its durable and strenght. Additionally, this material does not tear, very easy work with it, also can be wash.

Recycled glass beads have been popular from ancient times to today. Beads are small, decorative items with hole in the middle for threading or stringing (Amin, 2024). They can have a range of shape, sizes and colour. It can them useful for crafting, jewerly-making, and many other project. Recycled glass beads are produced from crushed recycled glass rather than raw materials Azhar A. (2024) This greatly reduces the emissions and energy usage associated with glass production.Recycled glass beads come in beautiful colors and can mimic the look of regular glass beads. Look for manufacturers that use 100% recycled glass verified by a third party.  I considered to using this because it can have different forms and would be perfectly looked by my bags.

Satin is more than just a soft, shiny fabric often used for fancy dresses. A satin weave can comprise many types of fabrics. According to (MasterClass, 2021) satin refers to the weave, not the textile, and most fabric characterized as satin has a soft, shiny finish that can be seen anywhere from evening bags to upholstery. Satin is one of the three major textile weaves, along plain weave and twill. The satin weave creates a fabric that is shiny, soft, and elastic with a beautiful drape (Rohan, 2024). I plan to use this materal as e a lining for my beaded bags, creating a great combination. They are the perfect accessory to add  a touch of elegance to any outfit.

Black perspex acrylic sheet are incredible versatile and can be used in many different ways. They are strong and tough, so they dont easily break. According to (Nettl Support, 2024) acrylic sheets have great clarity, almost like glass, allowing 92 % of light to pass through. Acrylic is seen quite sustainable because it cant be recycled many times without losing quality and is very durable (Davies, 2021In my work I will be use this material to print my logo, using 3d workshop cutting techniques

Coil zippers is made of spiral plastic elements, including polyester and nylon. This is the most frequently used type of zipper. It runs on two zipper coils on two sides of the fabric tape. The two kinds of coils zippers are spiral coil zipper, with a cable reinforced inside the coil, and a ladder zipper known as ‘Ruhrmann type’( Textile, 2023).
Zipper is one of the most important accessories by my bags. Zippers are not only used for functional purposes but also aesthetic choice, contributing to the visual appeal of products.
