Portfolio One: Project Statement
In my
project for AP1, I will be focusing on the theme "Primitivism".
I will be creating 3 X 3D designs inspired by trees, looking at the
shapes made by their roots, branches, leaves and flowers. My idea is to create 3 X candle holders in
ceramics and wood. I will use the ceramics workshop to understand how I can create my designs in clay. I
will investigate how I can add textures to my work inspired by nature, sand, moss and wood. I will also use
the wood workshop and look at how I can incorporate wood into my designs. I am interested in
enclosing the candle in at least one of my designs and I will think about how the shadows will be formed by
the light inside the candle holder.
I will make
3X 2D design sheets using pen and watercolour. I’ll look at how I can use
different methods of watercolour application to describe the various textures.
My colour palette will be natural, natural colours, browns but also gold and
silver.
One of the
most exciting aspects of this project is the opportunity to explore interplay
between different materials
and their textures. Wood brings warmth and authenticity with rich texture, and
ceramics elements add
durability. Each candle holder will be created with minimalist design, clean
lines and attention to
the decorations.
I was able to find some artists who have inspired me with these ideas: George Nakashima, Victoria Yakusha, Hans Coper. I am so happy and excited to start doing my project and it is so important for me to develop my crafts skills and give me new opportunities.
