First Thoughts on the Project Themes

This term, we got a project brief with three themes to choose from: Primitivism, Pop Art and Industrial. For my initial thoughts on this project, I chose the theme of Primitivism- it is close with my progression routine Design Crafts. This theme appeals to me because it connects deeply with nature and early traditional cultural. I did some notes for my initial plan on piece of paper.

First, when I start write I thinking about to create candle holder using only natural, sustainable materials. I am so inspire the Ukraine designer and architect Victoria Yakusha, she done a lighting fixtures to use ceramics material. I am find inspiration in the simplicity shape, texture describe her work like 'new primitivism'. I take my inspiration from her form it is like flowers, on the middle I imagine candle and then I start thinking about to make some 3d ceramic forms flowers.

The sconce features a textured, circular shade

I will have to take materials durable and sustainable, and first I was thinking its roots. I like the natural forms. I am find inspiration in the simplicity of roots, it is natural and have elegant designs. Crafting and root are new and interesting to explore for me. I try to experiment with different materials and techniques to do handmade

This idea with roots inspire me to create unique design that will be highlight the natural beauty. Also, mix with roots other materials like glass, metal, or wood for a balanced look. The roots are strong material and well- preserved to support design

                                        (Cornus florida)                          (Prunus serotina )

Additionally, depending on the tree bark can look different, it can be smooth, rough, peeling its a design which nature make and very inspire me. The texture, colour, shape it can be various way to make some special from this material. I thinking about I can try to balance them together, wood and ceramics materials and doing something new. Combine different materials for one 3D project. The main holder can be wood and ceramics which can be to keep a candle.
This project will help me explore new materials and techniques, blending natural beauty with practical design
